🌟-Fragrantica-🌟: Vetiver Parfum Cologne
Chypré : : Warm & Dry - Fresh, & Spicy
“There is no material in perfumery quite like Vetiver – it is at once earthy, smoky and leathery all in perfect harmony. Sophisticated and incredibly versatile, those who wear it are confident and self-assured – a presence in any room. Vibrant Citrus notes create a lively freshness around the dry warmth of Vetiver, whilst both Cedar Wood and Needles, and Oakmoss add heat and complexity. Everybody wants to be near him. It is the ultimate example of how a modern man should smell. The Vetiver wearer doesn’t provoke envy but instead, adoration.” - Roja Dove.
Vetiver Olfactory Description
Vetiver, a warm, dry, fresh, and spicy Chypré fragrance centred around the sultry smokiness of Vetiver, freshened by citrus and ‘green’ notes. The dynamism of Bergamot, Lemon, and lemon-like Litsea Cubeba is amplified by a spicy blend of Pepper, Pink Pepper, Nutmeg and Caraway. An unusual note of Celery Seed and Galbanum add further freshness to the central theme of hot, smoky Vetiver, on a warm base of Guaiacwood and Amyris tempered by Rose and Jasmine. Cedarwood and Cedar Needles are underscored by the dry scent of Oakmoss and sensual, leather-like Cistus and Labdanum to perfectly complete this quintessential Chypré fragrance.

Revisiting random alkemia scents I’ve rested for several months. (Reviews)

Some parts of these reviews may be mildly nsfw or adults only in content ~ ——
Earlier last year I became obsessed with alkemia and bought nearly the whole catalogue in samples/and full sized of many of the discontinued and limited scents.
Since then my tastes have changed somewhat as I learned about lots of other houses and what I like and don’t like/vs what I want to like/became enamored with NAVA, solstice scents, and hexennacht mainly.
Anyways - I have a million pretty little alkemia samples packed away in their romantic little black boxes- so I thought I’d revisit them for youse for the sake of research : 3
how I review stuff/my preferences I keep the listed notes in mind but tend to just review them as they actually smell rather than trying to smell the notes that are supposed to be there.
I try to keep things short but probably write too much and go way into details and have just accepted this as an inevitability ~ so my apologies if this is too long or whatever : p (I like to read reviews like this myself, so maybe this style will appeal to someone))
I have a very wide range of things I love, but tend to balk at aquatics, perfumey or dank green notes, maple syrup, vetiver, whisky, and ozone.
Favorites are patchouli, motor oil, darker ambers, black musk, dirt, vanilla, incense/spice, rose/lavender, sandalwood, cardamom, cola, citrus, mint, heavy smoke, and mallow/a variety of gourmands
On Alkemia in general (Just my opinion, man:) Keep in mind that alkemia is a pretty unique house - in the sense that it’s hard to explain where exactly it lays on the spectrum between mainstream, niche, and indie in overall “vibe” of how perfumey or realistic their blends are. The scents also tend to change a lot on the skin in my experience - like they often go through 5 different phases and flicker around somehow haha.
Ok, on to the reviews!
reaches hand into box and picks a random one
1891 Fine Gentleman's Blend of Lime Leaves, Coriander, White Carnation, Spiced Bay, Oriental Incense Woods
In bottle: kind of a strong perfumey/herbal nearly leathery-green cologne. Tangy lime soaked coriander.
Wet on skin: smells like the misty/heated crook of a mans neck wearing slightly atypical cologne after a shower ~ fresh limey green somewhat spicy coriander
Dry down: that punchy green gets muted by a more fancy powdery old spice smell for a short moment - then strictly becomes “cologne” - like what you imagine “fresh” cologne/aftershave to smell like by default when your think of that word.
Rating 4/10 It doesn’t give me a migraine, as these types often do - and does smell kinda good, but it’s soooo not my vibe and makes me a little queasy. Very “I AM AN BUSINESS MAN.” Reminds me of an old money Wall st. business man showering in his very grey/black/silver toned apt, and old rich men in black suits in rented black cars.
Kinda sexy in a very typical 50 shades of grey way- but not something I’d wear myself 😂. Good for a man in your life who likes traditional colognes and smelling fresh and classy (in that very particular way))

the love song of shu-sin a gloriously golden seduction of dark honeycomb, 5 year aged labdanum amber, oud wood, spikenard, roses petals and bay leaves fermented in honey wine, and cedarwood incense.
This is one that I have sung praises of several times and definitely thought of as a “this is me” kind of perfume in the past hahaa. Haven’t worn it in a few months since discovering NAVA and this is also my half-year aged sample - so let’s see how it is now:
In bottle: mmm ~ delicious nearly suede-like melange of amber swirled in some slightly boozy honey with a bit of rose-leaning abstract floral ~ something a little green or root like is in there somewhere. The scent is almost too perfumey and oud heavy for me but nevertheless hits me in that eyes rolling into back of the head way ~ very erotic.
Wet on skin kinda the same - just more muted and spread out with the honey warming up more. It becomes more perfumey to me as whatever vibes as ever so slightly dark green starts to peek out a little - but it’s also hard to separate from the amber. The honey reminds me of African honey wine.
dry down rich suede-ey perfumey amber, tinged with African honey wine and a sprinkling of rooty rose floral. The amber eventually swells in sweetness to where it reminds me of mallow. I feel like there’s probably lots and lots of oud happening in this scent.
The projection is powerful and and smells mainly of leathery mallowy oud, honey wine, and a bit of rosey floral. The projection easily is too much and too long lasting for me and one little dab is more than enough.
Rating 9.8/10 it’s a beautiful perfume, something that really exemplifies really potent dreamy erotic sensuality/divine feminine. It’s a little mainstream leaning/niche-like and cloying for my tastes now and I tend to like perfumes to smell a bit less “blended” but it’s still gonna stay in my all time favorites. I have to be in a really certain “I am an actualized powerful sensuous ADULT WITCH” mood to wear this 😂

roll in the hay A delightful romp through dried hay, fresh green grass, early summer wildflower honey, vanilla grass, vanilla leaf, and wild poppy.
In bottle pleasant tangled greenish brown greenery soaked in good smelling stuff. Natural and perfumey all at once. Smells really good. Uhhh... hard to explain.
Wet on skin Spicy-green with a bright tinge of brown hay.
Dry down yummm ~ vibrant airy somewhat green/mostly dried hay in a field and the wind is blowing. Somehow smells erotically nostalgic, like the drama of young love.
Moar dry down: starting to get greener and I think I smell the vanilla leaf and poppy - which to me smells slightly of faint but bright and uplifting anise seed/rooty/sweet poppy. It settles into this, and keeps getting a little softer and sweeter as it wears, with some non gourmand vanilla. Maybe a litttlleeee bit soapy over time but not in a bad way. Doesn’t last super long.
Rating: 8.5/10 Wow! I knew I liked this but I forgot how pretty it was. Some part of me is always grossed out by the idea of hay represented in a perfume for some reason - but this is so lovely and easy to wear.

eggnog noel A luscious blend of delectably creamy eggnog with nutmeg, cinnamon, and a splash of dark Caribbean rum.
I used to really like this one too, so let’s see what we’re workin with here:
In bottle: fruity boozy rum, very grated cinnamon stick-heavy, and a little waxy-creamy.
On skin vaguely eggnog tinged Christmas candle ~ nearly floral with how cinnamon like it is. “eggnog potpourri”
Drydown the eggnog is coming through a little more and warming it up somewhat but the milkyness of it has a bit of a sour tinge to me. It’s also very subtle.
It’s Christmas and you’re bartending and burning Christmas candles surrounded by cinnamon stick wreaths and you just served one of your regulars a quick room temp strong fruity rum in a shot glass with just a drop of eggnog in there and downed it with them quick before your boss sees LMAO.
The cinnamon bark is very heavy and like... potpourri in a small town shop Christmas display of wooden and little houses. Remains very strongly dry-spiced typical “Christmas candle” overall.
The cinnamon and somewhat bitter nutmeg amp more and more over time. I like this part because I’m a forever Christmas elf and like spicy stuff. It gets spoiled when the eggnog tries to come out here and there and it smells a little waxy and sour.
rating 3/10 I don’t know why I used to like this so much but it’s so not doing it for me now unfortunately. I really like very stereotypical heavy Christmas store scents but somehow this one -while nostalgic- is a little queasy for me. 😬
Ok let’s do one more....

book of shadows A biblichor of eldritch books - heavy parchment paper, ancient iron oak gall ink, crumbling leather bindings, and wafts of rare incenses.
(Oh Jesus here we go... Alkemia’s leather and ink notes are... a lot for me. This one has been aging for at least six months so let’s see how it is now.)
in bottle I can smell it before I even open the sample, haha. Like strong sickly sweet black leather and ink. Ok... brave enough to open the bottle:
PUNCH IN THE FACEEEEEEEEE.
Like burying your face into heavy thick black leather chaps in the memory of a garden. It smells kinda sexy in that way and the leather has definitely improved with aging. There is lots ‘O ink present. The exhale reminds me of that vaporous odd medicinal mistyness of an inhaler. WOOF I’m dizzy.
Wet on skin (oh god here we go...) Same as bottle sniff - that inhaler-like exhale actually made me cough and feel a wave of migraine aura and I have to catch my breath before going in again LMAO. My brain wants to think this is poison or something and it gives me anxiety hahaha.
Dry down Sexy black leather chaps dominatrix man ~ with strong ink that has a slightly green perfumey cast. Little bit less of the inhaler mist on exhale. Something like mysterious incense tinged with slight violet faintly in the siliage.
Perfume representation of a leather clad domme in a violet garden /hedge maze.
Like a scene in Anne rice’s sleeping beauty series. He means business and is kinda scary but beautiful ~ the incense is also “scary” smelling to me. Which I never thought was possible. It rises up to match the leatheetc more as the scent relaxes more over time.
Eventually starts to go a little more perfumey and a little soapy but it retains its shape.
Far later - more relaxed and nuzzly and idk why I still get something purple in there subtly, esp on the exhale.
Rating: ?/10 I don’t even know how to rate this. I have a serious love/hate relationship with this one. It’s SO strong and I can’t imagine wearing it daily. It’s nauseating as well as evocative and seems to get better and better with age. I prefer it to The Raven - which has more of a strong syrupy purple flower component. This scent is pretty hot but seems more suited for larp-ing or roleplay 😂
Ok that’s it!
I’m gonna keep doing this and make my way through everything I have because I’m trying to make a real effort to destash some stuff soon.
Hope this was helpful to someone :p

A bunch of Sixteen92 reviews before the resurrection

So I've been slowly picking up S92s in the swaps and through a couple store purchases over the last ~2 years and have accumulated enough to justify a full review post. And just before their annual resurrection event even!
General info: I put 3 dabs on my wrist and transfer to my hair, then another 3 on each wrist. My "day" is about 9 hours. Wood and leather are generally death notes for me. I like sweet, green, gourmand, flourmand, spicy, and darker florals. I also usually do much better with FCO bases, so these start out on a finicky note.
Der holler rache: black vanilla pod, fire, hot metal, night queen tulip, blood orange rind, opium. -- this went straight perfumey on me and I'm not sure why. The hot metal note also didn't seem to agree with me and went a bit weird. Gifted to my friend and she loved it. 2/10.
keres: orange, black iris, metallic accord, vetiver, sun-warmed musk, and iso e super. - this turned out to be a scrubber. Something in it went straight cough syrup and I was not a fan. 0/10
Mercy Lewis: Heliotrope, honeyed tea, rosehips, sugared almond, creamy sandalwood, milky vanilla. - I like this one! It's mostly a pleasant floral, but with some creaminess. It's really unique and is one of those rare "all seasons" gems. I full sized. Moderate throw and lasted most of the day. 10/10
Southern gothic: Mandarin, apple, natural coconut pulp, magnolia grandiflora, sambac jasmine, sweet balsam, white sandalwood. I'm not overly impressed by this one. It's pleasant, with a very fruity floral scent overall. However it doesn't scream southern magnolias. It smells like something I've gotten at a bath and body works at some point. It's nice overall, but it doesn't stand out to me and if you have other fruity florals you may not need to pick this one up. It was also very low throw and short longevity. 6/10
Really most sincerely dead: Breadseed poppy, warm coconut milk, honeyed benzoin, black licorice. I picked this one up for the breadseed poppy, while crossing my fingers about the licorice. Normally I am not a licorice fan. But this pulls it off. The licorice never gets over powering and is just there for complexity. It is warm and delicious. 8/10
Sarah good: Charred maple leaves, black pitch, fresh-baked bread, dried black tea leaves, sweet orange, chimney smoke. SO GOOD. This is absolutely my favorite. It's warm sweet bread with a tiny bit of delicious char around the ends. My Lyft driver (pre-covid) said I smelled "like a candle in the best way possible." After a couple of hours it gets to a slightly sour char that I'm not a fan of, but once I reapply that goes away. Love love love it. 10/10
Formula 86: rice powder, sugar cane, warm caramel, heliotrope, Tonka bean, dark chocolate. - Hmm this is interesting. I'm getting a powdery caramel. There's the heliotrope as a floral and Tonka bean in there somewhere too. No chocolate for me. It's good, but interesting. At least a medium throw. I was hoping for another version of Mercy Lewis but I don't think I could put it to the same level. 7/10
Malum mallus: apple peel, autumn hayrides, dense corn maze, sugar pumpkin, twisted bark. - I think my skin took the bark and ran with it. In the bottle it's more warm apples and hay, but when I put it on it goes straight men's cologne with some apples. It makes me sad. 3/10
Thank the dark lord: spiced caramel toffee, soft wool scarf, witches herbs, cardamom latte, a tray of warm cookies. - Yum! This is another gourmand-but-not-completely scent. It's more on the gourmand side than some of their others, but that is perfectly ok. It has all of the notes mentioned. The scarf doesn't turn powdery or anything like some fabric notes do, it just combines with the witches herbs to not scream "eat me" levels of food notes. 9/10
The book of the beast: wet leaves, burned parchment, a roaring bonfire, only night sky, a slice of leftover birthday cake. This was a freebie thrown into my order. I don't think I got any of the notes, but it went men's cologne again. I'll blame whatever wood notes are in that bonfire. 2/10
Atropa belladonna: nightshade berry, narcotic flowers, green tomato, green pepper, soil, broomstick, velvet plum - this is a very sharp green. Its almost soapy? It has high throw on me, and it lasted through multiple washes of soap. Definitely not my favorite of the bunch. 1/10
Nerium oleander: white and pink oleander, heliotrope, apple seed, sweet custard, pineapple, thyme, coconut water - yaaaas! Love this. It's almost like mercy Lewis, and Poesies all mirth, no matter had a love child. It's a nice, foody, floral, which is 100% my jam. 8/10
telepathy: winter narcissus, Tonia bean, immortelle flower, sleet, ozone, white Amber - noooooope. That is just a very white floral tossed in with some other chemically perfume notes. I hate it. It's getting scrubbed immediately. 0/10.
The grass harp: Orange blossom, clover, hyacinth, ruby red grapefruit, sweet basil. - it's light, bright, and green. It's very refreshing and I used up the sample during a string of 100+ days. 8/10
Doll parts: *Rhubarb, white cake, white peach, cassis, osmanthus, ginger flower. - straight up sweet tarts! It even has that powdery, sugary smell. Love it!! I go nose- blind to this so quickly though. I can sniff something else then go back and find it, but two sniffs straight up and it disappears. Kind of strange, but it's so good! After maybe an hour I get much more grapefruit out if this and it starts becoming comparable to Hex's rose quartz. 9/10
Cyanide: amaretto liqueur, pink heliotrope, honey-soaked dates, hawthorn flower, nutmeg, rum. - this is very warm and pleasant. I love amaretto and that's the main note I get. The dates, nutmeg, and rum come next. I don't get tons of floral notes, but its there somewhere because this doesn't completely go straight gourmand. I actually really like this overall. It lasts most of the day too. 9/10
Melifera: wildflower honey accord (not vegan), violet, sambac jasmine, vanilla infused sugar, sandalwood. - kind of a standard honey scent. Nothing really stands out to me and it isn't remarkable in terms of throw and longevity. 6/10
Bette: angel food cake, floral honey, marshmallow, pistachio, French vanilla, loose black tea. - this seems to be coming through as just cake and vanilla for me. Nothing is really standing out as being overly unique, but it is a very pretty vanilla cake. I've mostly been using it to layer with. 7/10
Bridget Bishop: night-blooming flowers, belladonna, bergamot peel, resinous oudh, nutmeg, ambroxan, scarlet musk. - I am amping that scarlet musk and flowers. I definitely smell like a grandma right now. Like the classic perfume for older ladies who are losing their sense of smell. Nope, nope, nope. Not for me. 1/10 but it gets a point because the throw is really good.
Spirit of Christmas present: *Christmas feast of shortbread, pudding cake, winter figs, chestnuts, and dates; jolly wreaths of holly; clinking porcelain cups; the silence of new-fallen snow - This is AMAZING! I got it as a blind buy in a swap and it just smells like sweet Christmas. It's likely a few years old at this point, so everything is very well blended and I can't pick out certain notes. It's sweet from the desserts, there's something vaguely green from holly, and it has a slightly "cool" feel to it. 10/10.
I be the witch of the wood: Wheat and straw, dark forest, poisoned apple, chimney smoke, fur, blood. - I wanted to try this because I saw a few reviews that it was similar to Sarah Good. I definitely have to agree with that. It's basically Sarah Good with apples instead of oranges and a touch less bread. They're definitely sister scents and I don't think I can quite justify having both fill sized, but I can justify keeping the sample. 9/10.

“Be The Flame, Not The Moth”
“An ode to the Italians approach to romance, Ti Amo is a passionate love letter in fragrant form. This declaration of love draws inspiration from the most famous lover of all time – Casanova - who is said to have grated Ambergris into the chocolate he ate every day. One of the most highly-prized aphrodisiacs, Ambergris blends with notes of Cacao and Vanilla to bring this erotic elixir to life. To turn up the heat, Ginger, Pink Pepper and Cinnamon add a spicy surprise, whilst the leathery tones of Labdanum suggest at something a little naughtier. This scent doesn’t whisper “I Love You”, it shouts “Ti Amo!”” - Roja Dove.

The farmers called the grass Mora and after verification, it turned out that Mora is actually Vetiver grass. Many farmers thought that Mora was not adaptable to the uplands. The first trial planting of Mora to test its adaptability to an acid infertile upland area of Matalom was done by the project in January 1990. Our seeds are of exceptionally high quality, certified in line with DEFRA quality standards of purity and germination. Grass varieties used in our amenity products are recommended independently by the Sports Turf Research Institute to ensure that you get truly professional quality grass seed for your lawn, garden or sports pitch. It can be used in the tropics and semi-tropics, and areas that have a Mediterranean type climate where there are hot summers, and winters are temperate. The very basis of the Vetiver System is that when vetiver is planted as a hedgerow across a slope, it forms a dense barrier that slows down and spreads rainfall runoff. The plant has a very deep and strong root system, and an attribute of sterility and non-invasive behavior. Vetiver grass will tolerate high levels of nitrates, phosphates, heavy metals, and agricultural chemicals. Vetiver can be used for treating wastewater, rehabilitating mine tailings, stabilizing landfills and general rubbish dumps. Vetiver takes up the toxic materials and confines the contaminates to the effected area. Vetiver grass is rapid growing, suitable for many climates and soils and is itself a low water use plant that does not compete for water with adjacent plantings due to its root system which grows straight down.
